mixing patterns

Today I took my addiction to stripes one step further and made life a little more interesting by doubling up the prints in this outfit. I always admire looks where people have mixed prints without going overboard, but don’t often attempt it myself. The easiest way to do this is by choosing the same colours (or lack of!) for both pieces. I also find that one big print and one small print looks better than two of the same size. In this case, my shorts have a less bold pattern than the top. You don’t need two competing prominent patterns overpowering you!

To not over complicate things I stuck with black and white, and paired with some clean chucks to keep it casual. My mom is visiting right now and we spent all day walking around Steveston so the running shoes served me well. These shorts are definitely made for being laid back too, they are so soft. Tomorrow we are going stand up paddle boarding!
Shorts: Aritzia floral and on sale, Top: Forever 21 (similar), Shoes: Converse, Bag: Marc by Marc Jacobs
