I am still in love with wide brimmed hats. As summer begins winding down I am slowing pieceing together a wardrobe that will take me into fall/winter, and a solid camel hat was on my wish list.

I own a few similar hats from fast fashion stores, but I found the brims to be flimsy and insubstantial after a wear or two. When I checked out offerings from more expensive stores, I was disappointed because the price increase didn’t seem to match the quality.

So then out of left field I decided to order a hat for $4 off eBay. I had been looking for something online that would break the bank and thought for the cost of a slice of pizza it was worth a try. I don’t mind investing in a vintage designer bag, but a hat (which I might wear every few weeks) didn’t seem like a splurge worthy item to me.
When my hat arrived it seemed my gamble had not paid off, as it was crushed into a plastic shipping envelope and looked destroyed. However, after a nice steam and a new ribbon, it’s exactly what I wanted. I’m pretty excited to have a good neutral hat going into fall, and one that I can also wear for the rest of August to start that transition. The material is really stiff and stays in exactly the right shape, so I don’t have a brim flopping around in my face. Might not be real wool, but it does the job nicely regardless. And, what a bargain.
