spring essentials now

I know it’s only just February, but I’m in the mood for spring already. And sometimes on days like today, Vancouver humours me and plays along. Though it may not be warm enough to get away with no jacket and bare legs for long, there are lots of spring pieces you can wear right now to tide you over till the weather turns.

The best part about this outfit for me is that none of these pieces are new. A big confirmation that I am building a solid, wearable wardrobe is that it contains things I still love season after season. If you follow along, you know I struggle with the constant push for new and now in the fashion world, and moments like this confirm I’m doing okay in that respect!

Here are my top choices for spring:

Sunglasses – I’ve been loving really oversized frames lately. After seeing some huge, boxy sunnies like these on a few bloggers and celebs, I remembered this old pair my boyfriend has and they have quickly become my new favourite.

Suede Booties – I am partial to booties all year round, so spring is no exception. Since it’s not nearly warm enough for sandals at this point, a light suede bootie is a more practical choice for the season. Just make sure you spray your suede with a waterproofing spray before wearing them, especially the lighter colours. Seriously a saviour against stains!

Stripes – Though you can never go wrong with this classic, I find full on sailor stripes like in this dress scream spring. Less obvious than florals and more my speed anyways.

Sleeveless Blazer – These have been all over the past few seasons, and since they are made for layering, it’s a perfect transition piece. Right now you could pair it with a warm turtleneck or other cozy sweater, then with dresses like this or crop tops once it warms up. I really like this beige or other light colours for spring.

Sunglasses: Spy Optics, Booties: Clarks, similar here from Steve Madden, Dress: Zara, similar here and here, Sleeveless Blazer: Similar from Forever 21, Bag: Chloe
