Even during the most body confident day, I would rather be wearing something loose and comfortable than fitted. While being 5 foot 10 inches certainly helps me pull off baggier pieces, it doesn’t make me immune to looking dumpy in oversized clothing.
To make sure you’re not drowning in your clothes, remember to play with the proportions of your outfit. If you are uneasy with “boyfriend” fit to begin with, stick with 1 piece that’s fitted to contrast the oversized item. Think a baggy sweater with leggings, or a tight tank with boyfriend jeans.
Strategically pick the tighter item to highlight your best assets. You’ll notice above I am a huge fan of loose tops with bare legs or skinny jeans, and that’s because I would always rather show off my legs.
The best bet when trying something new is to get it from a fast fashion store so you can see how it wears without making a huge financial commitment. Another option is to shop second hand.
When all else fails, wearing heels or statement shoes (such as thigh high boots!) will dress up any look and make you feel more put together.
