I know, I know. After our less than stellar summer the last thing you want to think about now that the sun is shining is fall trends. That’s okay – I’m wearing the heck out of all my shorts, dresses and bikinis too! However, it is the right time to start planning for the season ahead.
It’s crazy (and unnecessary) to start from scratch, but fall is an opportunity to purge and update. Many pieces can be worn year round in Vancouver, but I start by doing a quick overview of anything seasonal:
- Does it still fit?
- Is it in good condition or repairable?
- Did I wear it in the last year?
- Do I still love the style?
If any of the above are a “no” it’s destined for giveaway/consign/donation. Doing a good clear out also shows what you have and what you might be missing. I regularly screenshot looks I love from blogs and social media for ideas, and if something matches up with the holes in my wardrobe (like with this army green bomber jacket) the search begins.
If you start early, you have time to compare the offerings at various stores and find what you want on budget. You also avoid impulsive purchases since you won’t be wearing those autumn fashion pieces right away.
Just stay strong and avoid splurging on end of summer sales!
