I love food. Pizza being among my favourites, it is no surprise that on this vacation to Italy I have eaten more than my fair share. Combined with wine, pasta and relaxing all day, let’s just say I’ve been avoiding fitted clothing.
Normally I am pretty active at my job (I spend 8 hours a day on my feet) and work out a few times a week.
But obviously, a vacation is pretty different from my regular life! I have been doing a lot of walking, usually punctuated by sitting on patios eating. What do you mean walking around scarfing down gelato is counter productive?
I find most people struggle with laziness and over eating on vacations, here is how I fight it!
1) Do fun and interesting things that get you moving.
The other morning I woke up really early and went for a hike up to some castle ruins! I went solo (since someone was sleeping) so I was able to push myself and not have to deal with anyone else’s pace. I was kind of a sweaty mess by the time I got to the top, but even a short intense hike made me feel so much better!
You can see in the photos the castle (Bastione) and the view from where I was down to Riva Del Garda. The pool from the view down is actually at our hotel!
2) Actually go swimming
Even in Denmark there was an indoor pool we went to almost everyday. I didn’t do laps (I am on vacation after all!) but just swimming around gets your body moving. Much easier here where it has been mostly sunny and warm!
3) Bring comfortable walking shoes!
This way you will be able to burn off some of those meals exploring new locations not in pain. I wore flat boots a lot this trip once my heels started hurting!
4) Go for a bike ride!
Depending on where you are, this may be how most locals get around. It certainly was in Denmark so renting a bike for a few days made it so easy to get around.
I am sad to say my vacation is almost over, but excited to get home to my doggies.
Where are you guys going on vacation this year?
