A-line skirts have been everywhere lately. On bloggers, celebrities, in magazines and store window displays. Lots have buttons all down the front, like my denim skirt (featured here on the Elle Canada website last week!!), but some are more simple like this soft suede number I cannot get enough of.
An a-line skirt is named after the letter it resembles (in the capital form), with the fabric cut out a bit as it falls down from your waist. With a slightly more generous cut than a skintight pencil, the a-line flows beautifully away from the body leaving some breathing room and a little to the imagination. They are extrmely flattering and you can feel a bit more demure even with shorter hemlines.
In my previous post I paired this skirt with a crop top, but you can see here it also goes with a longer denim shirt. The high cut sides in the shirt and the mini’s short length mean the look isn’t too shapeless even though nothing is very fitted. At first I wasn’t sure about wearing something longer with this skirt, as I had planned on mostly tucking shirts in or wearing cropped sweaters this fall, but I guess the a-line skirt is more versatile than I thought!
Has anyone else picked one up for fall or already has one in their closet?
