comfort zone

Everyone has a sartorial safe zone they don’t stray too far from. It could be in sneakers and yoga gear or designer labels, but most of us will fall into a pattern of dressing that is convenient and just feels right. It might be a certain cut or a particular colour that you pick up again and again, but chances are you have a signature “look” even if you’re not trying to.

Though my style has certainly evolved over time, since high school I have pretty much sworn by neutrals. Not only does monochrome make getting dressed way easier, I feel sophisticated and all around comfortable in that pallet. So clearly, a vibrant yellow top is big a change from my normal shades! Not only that but it’s literally the brightest piece in my wardrobe – you can see this thing for miles.

It helped break the ice that this is my favourite style of tank (almost a racer-front cut with a high neckline and super exposed shoulders) and sticking with what I know definitely makes this bright a lot more wearble. The open back detail makes it special, and the button in the mid-back hits right over my bra band for perfect camouflage. Since I love keeping everything loose and floaty, I paired it with these culottes instead of a together pant. An all black backdrop also meant the shocking citron got to have all the attention.

I’ve heard that bright colours liven up your day, and it’s true I was in a really good mood when I was wearing this shirt, so maybe there’s something to it. I’m not a total colour convert just yet, but it is nice to have something different to throw on for those days when you need a little pick me up.
